Prioritize me, Cap’n!
What are your priorities? Is writing one of them?
Sometimes, though, writing doesn’t come first. For example, I spent 8 hours at the library today, which involved reading to a cute little girl, taking four kids to a magic show because their mom was too busy for them, dealing with grouchy parents, alphabetizing, and folding filthy papers (because that is what happens when you let children take things home. Nothing against children–it’s just the truth). I will never feel clean again. (Except I kinda do. I used a lot of soap. And some hand sanitizer.)Â
In addition, I have tickets for the 12:40 AM showing of the final Harry Potter movie, so I’m getting myself together for that. *SNIFF* I’m sad about it ending. And I’m waiting for my headache to go away.
What I’m getting at is that sometimes life gets in the way. So what do you do? Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just hunker down and do double-duty the next day. I can’t look over your shoulder and verbally kick your butt. So you’ll have to pretend I’m there.
I didn’t get any writing done for myself today. So why am I spending the time to write this? Because I’ve made this blog is a priority. I have no idea who will read this one day. And I want you to know that I’m taking the time I could be spending lying on the couch in the dark for you. Because everybody needs encouragement sometimes. For all I know, this could be the pick-me-up you need. Maybe it isn’t. But you should feel loved because I’m doing this for you.
I’ve had a long day. I’m here anyway, though. And that’s what counts. Even when things suck, you gotta do what’s important to you.
Your assignment? Set aside some time for writing today. Try for at least 15 minutes. Do some freewriting. Write about whatever comes to your mind. Try to include some stuff about the priorities in your life. Report back to me on how it goes. What’s important to you? How do you make time for things you enjoy?
