Plays

Another type of writing that tends to get left in the dust in writing blogs is plays.

Before you freak out… Plays don’t have to be long.

In fact, there’s a genre of plays specifically called “ten-minute plays,” and they are exactly what they sound like. Not including characters or title page, they should be about ten pages long.

And guess what? Plays are mostly dialogue. So if you’re good at dialogue, this should be a cinch for you. If you’re not so great at dialogue, this is an excellent chance for you to work on it.

Spend some time trying to develop a ten-minute play. It should have a clearly defined plot, distinct characters (as in they don’t all seem the same), and have an interesting setting. And last ten minutes.

It’s not so bad. Just give it a shot.
