Sometimes, research is necessary for writing. If you are a good enough writer, you can convince a reader anything. But in many cases, it’s better to look something up. If you don’t remember what direction the sun rises in, look it up. Don’t just throw a word down and hope the readers won’t catch it. Because someone will notice.
Do a little bit of research about something you’ve never written about before. Use that research to write a story. If all you need is a fact or two, that’s great. Don’t worry too much about how much research you need. Just do something that requires fact-checking.
