Very short stories

Also known as flash fiction. Or brevities.

One of my favorite short stories was written by Ernest Hemingway as his answer to a challenge: Write a story in six words or less.

“For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.”

Honestly one of the most powerful things I’ve ever read. There is so much story in just those two sentences. Just imagine what led up to the sign, the emotions and actions involved. Really, really take the time to think about it.

How short of a story can you write? Try for fewer than 100 words. See how you can convey emotions with as few words as possible.
