Nothing is truly ever finished. It can always be added to, edited to sound better, or even subtracted from.
It’s easy to say, “I’m finished!” once you’ve written the words “The end.” But it can’t stop there. It just doesn’t.
It can always be improved. Even if you can’t figure out how to yet (even after taking a break from it), you’ll see all the ways it can be better later on down the road.
Writing is something you have to continually try to get better at. You are never done. It will never be over until you’ve given up entirely. But even then, you may find yourself getting drawn back in. And that’s okay.
But never let yourself think something is as good as it’s gonna get. You can always improve. Nothing is ever finished.
