Many people say that they want to write. But then they choose not to do so. They say they don’t have time. They don’t have the energy. They have too much to do. They love to talk about the ideas they have and what they want to do. They want to write a novel. They want to write a screenplay. They want, they want, they want.
But they never do.
Are you afraid of rejection? If that’s all it is, then what are you doing with yourself? How are you dealing with sending out job applications? Going to class? Going to work? Talking to anyone new? Writing and sending things out is no different.
But maybe it’s because you’re afraid that you’ll be told you’re not good enough. Then what are you doing when you’re going to work or class or wanting to date someone? It’s all the same. When you’re told you’re being rated a certain way, you determine if that way is good or bad. And then you work to improve.
Writing is the same thing. You can’t get better if you don’t get feedback. Find people who will give you constructive criticism. By that, I mean not to go to the friends who will tell you you’re good even when you need some work. There are people out there who are willing to help you get better. You just have to find them.
