NaNoWriMo: Day 29

Well then! Things are still going rather smoothly.

The boyfriend finally read everything I’ve written this month. The first thing he told me was that the first two chapters are horrible.

But he didn’t let me say anything to that. He told me to hold on. And then he said that after that point, he couldn’t put it down.

He was watching Le Miserables, and all he remembers about it was that there was good singing (He hadn’t seen the movie before). He was that invested in what he was reading. And when the movie was over, he was annoyed because he had to leave to go get some stuff taken care of for work.

He said that even though he knew what was going on and what was going to happen, he just wanted to see more and keep reading.

And he looked at his mom after the movie was over and said, “She’s finally done it! She’s written something that I can’t put down!”

After being told all of this, we got into the nitty-gritty of what he liked and didn’t like. He even quoted the book to me (because he thought this one particular line was funny). He commented on stuff that I didn’t even remember writing!

He’d only been able to read 75% of it, so when he was able to, he called me back, and he sat down at his computer to read it. I stayed on the phone with him and waited for laughs and whatnot.

I was afraid he’d hate that section since it was kind of similar to one of the parts he hated, but he actually really liked it.

After that point, we finally got off the phone, and I began to get my writing done for the day. He asked me to send it to him as he wrote. And he thought it was really funny again. 😀

I ended up getting 1,687 words out of–not much, but it did the trick. At 48,558 words, I was ahead of the calculated 48,343 by 215 words.

It may not be as much as I was at the beginning, but ahead is ahead. Now all I have to do is write 1,442 words today and get my Winner Goodies. Another year without cheating. 🙂 Looks like I am getting better after all. 🙂

Best of luck, young writers! If you think that you aren’t close enough to finish today, try anyway! Just do as much as you can, even if you end up with 10k words to go. It’s okay. Just make the effort to write as much as you can today, whether you’re finishing NaNo or an essay for school. You can do this!!

If you don’t feel like you have anyone to support you like my boyfriend did yesterday, then poke around some more. Tumblr has a lot of wonderful people. Check the writing-related tags. You’re bound to find someone who’s similar to you. I of course don’t mind supporting you, but it’s good to have a full system of people instead of relying one one person.
