Thoughts regarding the first week of school

This is my first week teaching. Something that hit me earlier today was an unknown benefit to it:

People listen to me.

Sure, you guys listen to me.

But in face-to-face life?

I get interrupted all the time.

Even by my friends.

Especially my friends.

One of my roommates starts talking pretty much every time I’m halfway through a sentence.

But my students?

They’re there to listen.

They raise their hands if they have something to say.

They’re fine with discussing stuff with me and even asking me questions.

But really, nowhere else do I get that kind of respect. Or at least, it doesn’t feel like it.

I’m just really hungry. And I hope I’m making a difference.
