Hey! I’ve got a question for you: What can I do with a character that is socially isolated? (I need to introduce him and get the reader to fall in love with him before throwing him into the plotline, but I am struggling with what to do with him.)

Hi! If it doesn’t go too thoroughly against your style as a writer, you could do a chapter from his perspective. It would allow you to get the reader into his head, and you can let them see the beginnings… Read moreHey! I’ve got a question for you: What can I do with a character that is socially isolated? Oh, I probably should’ve given you some more context there. The 14 year old and the 16 year old meet over the summer and have time to bond without being interrupted by busy class schedules. The girls don’t live in the same state, though. But the book is set to end with the 16 year old writing a letter to the 14 year old saying that she’s moving to the 14 year old’s state/enrolling in the same high school as her. So if I decide to write a book to follow up this one, that’ll be the focus. Thanks!

Oh, cool! Thanks for letting me know! That sounds like an interesting premise! There’s lots to do over the summer, so that makes sense. 🙂 Great ideas!

About the age question, I agree that it would probably depend a lot on where they live. As an example, that could quite possibly happen where I live (in Sweden) however it wouldn’t be as accepted as a 15 and 17 year old would be. Why? Because in America the age of consent is 18 (if I’m correct) but that age is 15 in Sweden. So just like it could be a bit like :/ if a 17 and 19 year old, or 16 and 18 year old, were dating in America (though it happens) it would be like that with 14 and 16 here.

Definitely! Plus, the age of consent actually varies depending on where you are. Some parts of the U.S. say 16, for example. And it definitely depends on how far apart they are in age, too. A 17-year-old dating a 13-year-old… Read moreAbout the age question, I agree that it would probably depend a lot on where they live. I’ve got a question about age differences. Would it be considered appropriate for a 14 year old and a 16 year old to be in a relationship in a novel?

Hmmm, interesting question. I think it probably depends on where it’s set. I could easily see a 14-year-old wanting to be in a relationship with a 16-year-old, but I’m having a hard time seeing it go the other way. I… Read moreI’ve got a question about age differences.
