Just because Person A is protective of Person B, doesn’t always mean that Person A believes Person B is:
- A damsel/damoiseau in distress
- Incapable of holding their own
It just means they care for them and want them to be safe. Stop demonizing protective people.
Also, please please PLEASE stop treating protective as if it’s the same thing as possessive and using the words interchangeably. They’re not the same. Possessive is acting like you own a person and actively trying to control their relationships with other people, protective simply means being inclined to protect someone. Being over-protective can be a problem but it’s not inherently a bad thing and is usually done with good intention. Being possessive is abusive and should not exist in healthy relationships in any form.
PROTECTIVE AND POSSESSIVE ARE NOT SYNONYMS.
Do not call a protective character possessive because it carries very abusive connotation that character does not deserve.
