What really scares me is when I see a young child laughing at someone’s pain.

What scares me more is when the adults in their lives don’t talk to them about it.

Kids are in the R&D stage of life, they’re figuring out how the world works, they don’t have a lot of answers yet. It takes a while to learn how to develop empathy and understand pain.

But when adults don’t take those opportunities as teachable moments, and instead encourage the kid’s reaction or simply ignore it…well. That makes me uneasy.
