disoriented-writer:

The best advice I have ever heard on writing diversity

If you are not part of the minority your character’s part of, don’t write them centered around it.

“Yeah, this woman is a lesbian. She also saved a kid from the streets when she was 17 and worked as a scientist for the government at that young age, but when the government turned against the people she was brave enough to oppose it. Her stubbornness will probably be the death of her.”

See?

Humans are humans, regardless of their looks, abilities or disabilities. Showing that is one of the purposes of diversity in the arts.
