I’m writing a story in which my 2 main characters get curse put on them. Part of the curse makes their hair act magically on it’s own. One of them is a black woman who used to have very long hair until she was cursed, then she cut it short and now she covers it most of the time to keep it under control. Is this okay or do you think I need to rethink this concept?

writingwithcolor: Black Woman with Cursed Hair Black hair struggles under the weight of negative connotations. To make it an actual negative entity doesn’t sit well with me. Having magical hair isn’t a problem for me in itself. It’s the cursed… Read moreI’m writing a story in which my 2 main characters get curse put on them. Half Romani, Half Caucasian Bisexual Woman

My MC (for a fanfiction but the character is an OC) is mixed race (African and white with a little bit more white) and I was wondering what hair styles I could have her have and how possible they would be for her to do on her own. The story is set in a kind of medieval period and she is living mostly on her own. Thank you so much!

writingwithcolor: Mixed (Black/White) Hairstyles in Medieval setting There’s no one way to look when you are mixed race, so I can’t really tell you how their hair would look. Tips would be to look at natural hair posts and pics… Read moreMy MC (for a fanfiction but the character is an OC) is mixed race (African and white with a little bit more white) and I was wondering what hair styles I could have her have and how possible they would be for her to do on her own. I’m a POC who writes mainly white characters but after seeing all the “diversity” posts on this site I’m wondering if I may be subconsciously prejudiced and now I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’ve been doing everything wrong and yet I don’t want to change my stories/characters to suit everyone else while not liking them myself.

writingwithcolor: To Write (or not write) with Diversity No one can force you to write inclusive stories. Inclusive meaning media that consists of marginalized people, because that is what diversity really is – including people who have always been right… Read moreI’m a POC who writes mainly white characters but after seeing all the “diversity” posts on this site I’m wondering if I may be subconsciously prejudiced and now I don’t know what to do. No Longer Taking Questions Involving the Wendigo

writingwithcolor: I have made my stance on the Wendigo very clear: it is not your stock fantasy monsters to use. It can be used accurately if you ask the tribe in question how to use it, but if you’re looking… Read moreNo Longer Taking Questions Involving the Wendigo

hello!! i have a character with afro hair and i want him to have it in a protective style, (particularly twists) but he isn’t one to buy extensions if he could just do it with his own hair. is this realistic? and can you undo (idk if that’s the right word) protective styling, wash your hair, and then put it back in almost immediately? ty!!

writingwithcolor: Natural Twists on Black Hair (Men, for Example)  Absolutely, you can do twists with your own natural hair. The styles looks pretty different with extensions than without, though. I’d recommend you search youtube for natural hair vloggers twist styles… Read morehello!! i have a character with afro hair and i want him to have it in a protective style, (particularly twists) but he isn’t one to buy extensions if he could just do it with his own hair. is this realistic? and can you undo (idk if that’s the right word) protective styling, wash your hair, and then put it back in almost immediately? ty!!
